How are MintMallows™ Different?
The world already has caffeinated mints. And because of us, it already has super-caffeinated marshmallows. But never has there been the unique triple threat: the super-caffeinated mint marshmallow!
We wanted to keep with the tradition of the finest and most natural ingredients we could find, so we add shreds of peppermint leaves to our secret formula. Peppermint naturally wakes up the mouth, the mind, and sharpens our senses.
Health benefits?
Not that we want you to think of MintMallows™ as a health food, per se, but peppermint has had a long history of health benefits. It has been used for many centuries to cure what ails people, from sour stomach to bad breath.
Several studies have shown that peppermint oil is effective in relieving irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In 2007, Italian investigators reported that 75% of the patients in their study who took peppermint oil capsules for four weeks had a major reduction in their IBS symptoms, compared with just 38% of those who took a placebo pill.
There are also findings that topical application of peppermint oil helps relieve tension headaches and that a combination of peppermint and caraway oils can help with recurrent indigestion.
The oil that’s extracted from the peppermint plant contains lots of compounds. Menthol is the most abundant and pharmacologically important. Menthol creates that familiar cooling sensation by stimulating nerves that sense cold (your mouth has some of these nerves, which is the reason products containing menthol “taste” cool); it also inhibits those that react to painful stimuli.
Both the oil and the extract have been also been very popular in helping with digestion after a meal. Peppermint has muscle relaxant properties so it can relax the smooth muscles of the GI tract, allowing for easier passage of food contents. It also seems to be effective in relieving intestinal gas and indigestion. According to the German Commission E Monograph, real peppermint oil or extract is also used to treat cramp-like complaints in the gastrointestinal tract!
